Dr. Mehralizadeh: Esfahan ready to expand ties with other countries' provinces

Governor General of Esfahan Province in a meeting with Russian ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan said that Esfahan has signed sisterhood agreement with fourteen cities and now targets using the international contracts and agreements signed between Esfahan and other countries.

He referred to a sisterhood agreement Esfahan signed with Saint Petersburg, and said the two sides have not yet been able to use the accord, but with the presence of new Consul General Boris Burmistrov in Esfahan and new management of Foreign Ministry representative office in Esfahan the deal will be used in the best possible manner.

He referred to age-old ties between Iran and Russia and said the two sides share long history of ties and cultural and economic commonalties, which can help upgrade the two-way ties in various domains.

Dr. Mehralizadeh said Esfahan and Saint Petersburg enjoy historical, cultural and artistic commonalties and count on their sharing for a long time.

He said tourism is one of the areas catching attention of the two sides.

The Russian ambassador, for his part, said since taking office US President Donald Trump has always thrown obstacles in the way of JCPOA implementation and even threatened that the US would pull out of the deal if the European governments did not rectify what he called as faults in the pact.

He, however, reiterated that like the European countries Russia is determined to preserve the nuclear deal and support the stands of the Islamic Republic of Iran in this respect.

The coordination between Iran and Russia in connection with the Syria crisis has served to defeat to a large extent the menace of terrorism and its threats.

Referring to fast growing cooperation between the two countries particularly in the field of economy, the Russian envoy said the fourteenth session of Iran-Russia joint economic commission is to be held in Moscow in March and a large delegation of Iranian traders and economic activists is expected to take part in the meeting.
